Changing the Rules of Change: Realigning the Organization so that Change Sticks

Track: Integrated Disciplines and Partnerships

Date: Monday, March 26, 2018
Time: 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Drop someone into a tough environment and as strong and influential as they are, they will likely be overwhelmed by the situation. Why is this? Context and environment are strong determinants of performance and outcomes.

Many change initiatives are focused on preparing individuals for the change or on setting up an effective change program. But, how many change efforts focus on changing the underlying environment or organizational system to drive success? If change practitioners and leaders can shape the environments they are trying to change so that success isn’t solely dependent on extraordinary individual efforts or heroic change programs, success becomes realistic.

Applying organization alignment principles in conjunction with change management techniques can shift the environmental aspects that make lasting change so difficult to achieve. Practitioners and leaders that understand a framework for aligning organization can assess their organization’s choices and make adjustments that will reinforce change rather than work against it.
