Pre-Conference Session: The Four Key Characteristics of Great Change Leaders
Great change leaders humanize the organization by demonstrating four key characteristics, and by leading their teams to build these same muscles. When armed with the right framework, OD professionals, HR professionals, and effective formal and informal advisors can drive powerful insights for leaders undertaking transformations of all sizes, whether to address shifts in strategy, shifts in employment expectations, or shifts in culture. Four key characteristics of great change leaders will form the backbone of this discussion and application session.

Four characteristics of great change leaders include:

• Driving choices and trade-offs
• Aligning the whole system
• Leading change throughout the whole journey
• Building these same capabilities in their team

In this session, participants will:

• Learn a simple metaphor for understanding whole systems change
• Apply this metaphor to diagnosing a current or proposed change to uncover alignments and misalignments
• Understand the four key characteristics of great change leaders, along with behaviors that support these characteristics required to lead transformations at any scale
• Apply a 5-factor framework for assessing leaders’ change management competencies
• Develop an action plan for applying what they learned
